Rev. Margie Clark grew up in a traditional Christian family attending the Methodist Church of her mother and the Mormon Church of her father. Her spiritual journey began in her twenties when religious experiences drove her to an exploration of world religions to confirm her own personal revelations.
This inner growth compelled her to study and practice Hinduism, Buddhism and other traditions. With a desire to find a Western religion that supported her spirituality, she turned to Quaker writings and then to Unity and Mary Baker Eddy’s Christian Science.
Finally, she decided that there was no external religion that corresponded to her internal spiritual life. She gave up on external, organized religion. About this time she was encouraged by friends to go to the Huntington Beach Church of Religious Science to hear Buckminster Fuller speak. When Reverend Peggy Bassett invited Fuller to her church, he replied, "I don’t believe in organized religion." She replied, "You’ll love, us, we’re so unorganized."
As she visited the Huntington Beach Church, Rev. Clark discovered a place where her own intelligence and spirituality would be supported and not be violated. She honors Rev. Peggy Bassett for creating such a place.
Rev. Clark has been a minister for 11 years and Senior Minister of the Seal Beach Church of Religious Science since 1997, where she continues to provide a safe place for people to explore their spirituality and their own truth unencumbered by dogma. The universal principles of Religious Science gives people the methods for change, growth and transformation.
